About the local area
Keswick is overlooked by spectacular scenery including the towering Skiddaw and Lonscale
Fell to the north and Derwentwater a stones throw away to the south, in the
heart of the Northern Lakes.
The market town gained its original charter in 1276 and although small it now forms
the hub of the Northern Lake District. Keswick has great character with its well
tended appearance; two large parks close to the town centre, speciality, gift and outdoor shops and a range of outdoor and indoor attractions.
Close by is the 4000 year old Castlerigg Stone Circle and the shores of Derwentwater
are a mere stroll away past the Theatre by the Lake. During the summer months
visitors can enjoy a free minibus service run by the National Trust from Keswick
linking into round trips to Buttermere.
